Irago Todaiji tile kiln ruins

One of the Atsumi old kilns used from the Heian period to the Kamakura period.

One of the Atsumi old kilns that was actively produced from the Heian period to the Kamakura period at the site of the kiln next to the first pond in Irago-cho. During the Kamakura period, the tiles used during the reconstruction of Nara Todaiji Temple were burned, and eaves-maru tiles, eaves flat roof tiles, and flat roof tiles engraved with “Todaiji Daibuden Tile” have been excavated. In the kiln trace, pebbles are lined up on the contours of the three kilns and are preserved so that they can be seen at a glance.
Atsumi Museomichi Museum, which is located in the same Atsumi district as the ruins of the kiln, displays eaves-maru tiles and eaves-flat tiles, and you can see the real thing.
